8th: Review your notes on your literary day poem, be prepared for tomorrow's multi-media presentations.
7th: Your comma practice packet is due tomorrow. Tomorrow, we will review and then you will be quizzed on using commas in your writing. Your interview on the "Immigrant Experience" is due on January 6th. Please conduct your interview over the holiday break.
6th: Hercules assignment is due on Jan 6. The "Frequently Confused Words" practice packet is due on Monday Jan 4. You do not need to write the sentences, review the rules, and fill in all of the blanks! Please learn these rules, because most of you are making some mistakes on these words in your writing.

8th: The test on the Pearl will take place tomorrow. In the morning, you will take the essay part of the exam. In the afternoon, you will take the multiple choice part of the exam. Use the study guide to review the details of this novel. Multi-media literary day projects will begin on Wednesday.
7th: Type your "I am From " poem (single-spaced) for publication in our class anthology. Write 13 lines representing a moment in time in the life of Cesar Chavez.
6th: Meet me tomorrow in the Large Group Room for a holiday video "Greek style"!! See you there.

8th: Study for Monday's test on the Pearl. Use the study questions attached to the Pearl vocabulary packet. All literary day multi-media projects are due Tuesday.
7th: Study for the quiz on the terms on the handout (diversity, cultural pluralism, acculturation, assimilation). Type your "I am From" poem. Imitate the style of George Lyons' example. Literary Day is postponed until Tuesday for the first 2 groups of students.
6th: No HW!! Literary Day is scheduled for Monday for 8 students. Are you one of them?

7th: Read the biography article on Cesar Chavez. Highlight important facts. Fill in the poem template for your "I am From" poem.

8th: Persuasive Writing Final Draft due Jan 4. Submit your final draft with rough draft and the peer edit sheet. Test on the Pearl, Monday Dec 22.
7th: Complete the Attribute Chart for your assigned character.
6th: Finish reading your assigned play. Review your part so you can play it with enthusiasm and confidence. You will act out your play tomorrow in class. Write down at least 2 statements to express a message or theme from the play.

8th: Finish reading the PEARL. Complete the assigned discussion questions. (see handout)
Final copy of the persuasive essay will be due on Monday, Dec 21. All multi-media literary day projects must be presented on Tuesday, Dec 22.
7th: Prediction: There are many hints about some kind of tragedy in this family's past. What do you think happened to the little girl?
6th: Read pp. 39-52 in Heroes God and Monsters. Read the Demeter handout, then fill in the questions that follow.

6th: Read pp. 1-30 in Heroes Gods and Monsters. Complete the Family Tree, bottom of the myth worksheet. Character Collage Poster Project is due on Monday.

7th: Answer the following question in paragraph form: What can you do to make a foreign born student feel more comfortable in our school? What characteristics should you display?
Continue working on the comma packet. The persuasive essay, final draft is due tomorrow.
6th: Character Collage poster project is postponed. The new due date is Monday. Students needed more time to work on this due to a heavy schedule for Winter Concert this week.

6th: Read the handout about the history of Ancient Greece. Be prepared to demonstrate what you've learned. Highlight most important facts and features.

6th: Read pp. 6 & 7 in Heroes Gods and Monsters. Study for the quiz on the 12 main gods and goddesses of Ancient Greek Mythology.

8th: Complete the vocabulary log in your Reader's Workshop packet. Type a theme statement for your novel, then, write at least one half of a page in which, using the character's names, you connect the theme to the major plot elements in the novel. Include details to reflect your outstanding recall of this novel.
7th: Complete the "Problem Solving Alternatives" worksheet in the Reader's Workshop packet. Make sure your packet is complete. NEATNESS COUNTS! Only one page should remain incomplete--- the theme page will be completed in class tomorrow.
6th: Complete the first draft and graphic organizer for #4 of the Character Collage Project.
