You should cut out the flashcards for vocabulary lessons 1-6 from the back of your workbook and study the words for the exam.

You should review the literary terms from the red resource cards. You will be asked to apply your understanding of the terms to a story on the exam.

Grade 8: Study the stories and poems from the Edgar Allen Poe unit study.

7th: Answer the question about "The Migrant Farmworker's Son". Fill in the character webs for Henry, Mom and Dad. Review your notes on Magical Realism and drama. You will have a reading quiz on this information on Monday.

6th: Read ahead in your new Readers Workshop book (the one you chose in class). Fill in the chapter/reading schedule page in your packet. Review vocabulary for exam!

8th Grade: Your facebook page is due for the Poe character. Complete the pre-writing graphic organizer for the in-class essay tomorrow. Which character is the most evil Poe character?
7th: Write a letter to Jessica, thanking her and sending your warm regards for her safe trip. Sign your name!
6th: Your Realistic Fiction narrative is due tomorrow. Attach your first draft and peer editing chart, as well as all of the graphic organizers from the prewriting stage. Begin to complete the exam review sheet.

All grades: Vocabulary 6 is due tomorrow!

8th: Your Gothic Tale is due tomorrow! Please refer to all guidelines for submission and print outs!

7th: Complete pp. 222-224 in the "Elements of Drama" handout.

6th: The first draft of your "realistic fiction" story is due tomorrow! Please bring in all of your graphic organizers, pre-writing and make sure you've used the checklist to include all of the story elements thoroughly! the quiz on subjects/predicates will be Tuesday, Oct 25! (we postponed it)

8th: Read to p. 80 in "The Murders of the Rue Morgue". Complete the first page of the CSI packet. Continue revision on the Gothic Tale due Tuesday.

7th: Complete the Cesar Chavez scavenger hunt over the weekend. Read all the timeline slides to find all the answers and to learn more about this heroic figure. (Responsibility Essays were due, make sure you submit it by Monday!)

6th: Read and review the rubric for "Realistic Fiction". Study the rules for subject/predicate for quiz on Monday. Your story is due on Tuesday!

8th: Finish the Annabel Lee worksheet.

7th: Your "Essay on Responsibility" is due tomorrow. Please attach and staple first draft, peer editing worksheets and the rubric for full credit on this assignment.

6th: Study for the Freak the Mighty test. Finish typing your letter.

8th: Your Gothic Tale is due on Tuesday! Follow all rules for formatting! Complete your Raven worksheets tonight. Sentence Practice Packet is due on Friday. We will go over it and you will be given a grade for your work.

7th: p. 30 on Supporting Details worksheet. Finish Immigration packet questions. Final draft of the Responsibility Essay is due Tuesday, October 25.

6th: complete the Maya scenario on the dialogue worksheet. Make the scene come alive with dialogue, use correct format. Use the narrative checklist to check off the elements you have successfully included in your story! Bring the checklist to class tomorrow.

8th: Bring your completed first draft copy of the Gothic Tale to class tomorrow. Always carry your flashdrive at school. Complete both sides of the Raven interactive handout.

7th: Your collage art project is due tomorrow.

6th: Complete p. 14 "Heroes in the News". Finish reading Freak the Mighty.

8th: Write the first 2 pages of your Gothic Tale, print double spaced, and bring to class. If finished, bring entire writing piece to class on Monday.

7th: First draft of "An Individual's Responsibility to Society" is due on Monday. Your thesis statement is the last sentence of your first paragraph.

6th: Write the first draft of your Realistic Fiction story. Follow the format rules for dialogue. Don't forget to SHOW, don't TELL! Finish reading Freak the Mighty by Tuesday.

8th: Finish reading The Pit and the Pendulum and complete question sheet.

7th: Study for test. Begin collage project.

6th: Continue working on your realistic fiction writing piece. The deadline for the first draft is Monday.

6th: Read Ch. 21 and answer #1 in the study guide question. We use QASI to answer the question thoroughly. Remember the steps!

8th: Finish reading "The Fall of the House of Usher", Poe's masterpiece of American Gothic literature. Highlight Gothic elements. Prepare for a reading quiz on the main points of the story tomorrow.

7th: Finish reading "3 Cups of Tea". Answer #48, 49 of the study guide questions. Fill in the graphic organizer for "What is an Individual's Responsibility to Society?". Choose one character and one character trait. Find the page # to demonstrate how this character in the book shows this trait. For example: Greg: Caring

6th: Read Ch. 17-20 in Freak the Mighty. Type one page, double spaced, of your Realistic Fiction story. Print this page and bring to class. (optional: more pages)

8th: Choose one Poe writing topic from the TECHNOLOGY LINK page and follow the directions for writing.

7th: Type a 150 word response to #1 from the "3 Cups of Tea Related Topics" (describe your weakness, etc)

Finish reading the book by Monday.

Read the article from the NY Times entitled, "Saudi Monarch Grants Women Right to Vote"

as you are reading, circle the words you are unfamiliar with.

6th: Read Ch. 13-16 in Freak the Mighty. In the study guide on p. 11, answer # 2, 6,7,8. For #8, make sure you include the page # for where you found your answer. Answer all questions in complete sentences.

8th: No HW.

7th: Read up to Ch. 18 in 3 Cups of Tea, and answer #33, 36, 38 in the study packet.

6th: Read Ch. 10-12 by Thursday. Fill in the People, Place, Heart Chart with at least two details for each section. Complete p. 10 in the "This is my Story" packet.
